Daggubati Purandeswari is an Indian politician from the state of Andhra Pradesh. She is a member of the Indian National Congress. Purandeswari was born on April 22, 1959 at Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. she is daughter of Andhra Pradesh's former chief minister and Telugu Desam Party founder 'N.T. Rama Rao' and 'Basava Rama Tarkam'. She is spouse of 'Daggubati Venkateswara Rao', an ex-Minister, ex-Member of Cabinet and current Member of Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly.

Early Life

Purandeswari is the sister of Telugu film actors 'Nandamuri Balakrishna' and 'Nandamuri Harikrishna' and the aunt of Telugu film actors 'Jr. NTR', 'Nandamuri Kalyan Ram' and 'Taraka Ratna'. She did her schooling from a prominent Chennai School, Sacred Heart Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Church Park. She has a Bachelor of Arts from the South Indian Educational Trust and Women College, Chennai. she did a short course in gemmology at the Gemmological Institute of India. Later she established Hyderabad Institute of Gem and Jewellery. Purandeswari can read, write and speak five languages, English, Telugu, Tamil, Hindi and French. Her versatility in Indian dance form 'Kuchipudi' mirrors 13 years of practice under the guidance of the 'Kuchipudi' exponent, Dr. Vempati China Satyam.

Political Career

Purandeswari represents the Visakhapatnam constituency of Andhra Pradesh as a Member of Parliament in the 15th Lok Sabha of India. She had previously represented the Bapatla constituency in the 14th Lok Sabha, during which period she served as the Minister of State in the Ministry of Human Resource Development. She is currently the Minister of State for Commerce and Industry. Later she got promoted to Ministry of Textiles.
